SAE AS9100 Quality Management Systems

 

Using ISO 9001:2008 as a baseline, SAE, The Engineering Society for Advancing Mobility Land Sea Air and Space International included additional requirements, traceable to the Code of Federal Regulations that are particularly important to the aerospace industry and recently revised
SAE AS9100:2009, Rev C Quality Management Systems - Aerospace -Model for Quality Assurance in Design, Development, Production, Installation and Servicing (see implementation schedule/timeline).  Many of the aerospace specific requirements added are directly traceable to:

Why Obtain AS9100 Registration?

The FAA has determined that AS9100 is "a comprehensive quality standard containing the basic quality control/assurance elements required by the current Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 14, Part 21."  Also, industry experts responsible for writing AS9100 were primarily from OEMs who agreed that additions to ISO 9001:2000 were essential to ensure the quality and safety of aerospace products.

Aerospace organizations around the world now have standardized requirements to ensure that customer, statutory and regulatory requirements are determined and met with the aim of enhancing  customer satisfaction.  AS9100 registration demonstrates  to the world an organization's commitment to meet customer requirements and continually improve the effectiveness of its quality management system.  AS9100 supports an organization's vision by preparing its processes and products for aerospace markets.
